Lepakshi hub to have textile park

BS Reporter Chennai/ Hyderabad

An integrated textile park is proposed to be developed within the 10,000-acre Lepakshi Knowledge Hub (LKH) in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh, a go-ahead for which has already been received from the project approval committee of the Union ministry of textiles under its ‘Scheme of Integrated Textile Parks’.

LKH has identified 130 acre towards setting up the textile park, which will see an investment of Rs 120 crore to develop common infrastructure, design studios, ready-to-use garment manufacturing units, garment training institute and a trade hub.

A total of 15 apparel and textile companies will establish units related to fabric production, home textiles and readymade garments manufacturing in the textile park along with a fashion school. The total investment in the park is estimated to exceed Rs 660 crore, including Rs 288 crore towards installation of plant and machinery, LKH said in a press release on Wednesday.

“Work on the integrated textile park will commence this April. Once fully operational, the park will employ over 10,000 people, mainly women, from neighbouring villages,” said Srinivasa Balaji, managing director of LKH.

The integrated textile park, being developed with the participation of the Andhra Pradesh government, also proposes to have other components such as a biotech special economic zone (SEZ), an aerospace and precise engineering SEZ, a free-trade warehousing zone and an Ayush Park. LKH has already received all the necessary approvals from the Centre for these projects.

Balaji said that Lepakshi had also received a letter of intent from garment manufacturers based in Bangalore for creation of 100,000-sft of built-up space to start operations. “Lepakshi will create an additional 200,000-sft space for the same companies in the second phase. The project is expected to get completed within 18 months,” he added.
