Orissa TV eyes satellite future

BS Reporter Kolkata/ Bhubaneshwar
Orissa's first private sector television channel, OTV is set to graduate from a cable channel to a satellite channel soon.

It has commenced testing its signal on satellite transponder as a precursor to its launch as an all-India television channel.

Orissa Television (OTV), a pioneer in the electronic media space in Orissa, launched its cable-cast channel in 1997.

While OTV was widely viewed through Cable Networks in many urban cities and towns of Orissa, it will now have a much larger reach through its satellite telecast, the company officials said.

OTV's satellite signal testing has started on Insat 4A (at 83 degree east, Frequency 3725 MHz, symbol rate 26666 FEC ¾) since the last few days through the teleport of NSTPL, Noida.

After its formal launch, OTV will be made available as a digital free-to-air channel.

While OTV's primary focus will remain news and current affairs, it also plans to expand its entertainment content with primetime serials, film-based shows, as well non fiction and reality programmes.
