Rajkot jewellery showroom gets IGI certification

Himanshu Bhayani Mumbai/ Rajkot
Rajkot-based Shilpa Lifestyle has become the first showroom in the Saurashtra-Kutch region to get certification from the International Gemological Institute (IGI).

The mobile laboratory of IGI, which is considered the world's largest independent laboratory for testing and grading gem stones and fine jewellery, announced the certification based on 4Cs (Cut, Carat, Clarity and Colour) grading.

The product range passed 14 stringent quality parameters as stipulated by IGI for certification.

"At present, there are 50 IGI certified diamond jewellery showrooms across the country, and this is the second such showroom in Gujarat after Ahmedabad-based Laxmi Jewels," said Tehmasp Printer, IGI India managing director.

To cater to retailers in the diamond jewellery trade, IGI has set up a mobile laboratory to provide certification at the doorstep of a client, who need not send his products to its Mumbai office.

Instead, IGI deputes its team with requisite equipment to provide certification for the products accessed by them.

The mobile laboratory has provided similar services to leading jewellery showrooms in Bangalore, Chennai, Kolkata, New Delhi and Pune, according to Printer.

"Almost 35 per cent of our customers prefer to buy something which is trendy and can be worn on frequent occasions," said Hiren Parekh of Shilpa Lifestyle.

Keeping this in mind, the company has launched diamond ornaments with price ranging between Rs 5,000 and Rs 25,000, according to Parekh.
