Tata Docomo to expand 3G network in North

Cellular service provider Tata Docomo is planning to extend its 3G network to more cities in Punjab and Haryana in the financial year 2014-15 by doubling its 3G network infrastructure. The network addition will enable customers to access services like video calling, mobile TV, video on demand, etc. The service provider has around 5.2 million subscribers in the two states.

The 3G network expansion will be carried out in more than 100 cities, towns and districts across Punjab and Haryana in places like Ferozpur, Mansa, Ferozpur Cantt., Rupnagar, Nabha, Nawashahar, Nangal, Nangal, Ambala, Bahadurgarh, Bhiwani, Hissar, Kalka, Karnal, Kurukshetra, etc. Currently, 55 cities in both the states are covered under 3G. In addition to this, to facilitate its subscribers, the company is also expanding its retail outlets in Punjab and Haryana.
 

Speaking to Business Standard, Nipun Sharma, who heads the mobility business unit of Tata Docomo for Punjab, Haryana & Himachal circles aid, "We will double our network expansion in Haryana and Punjab by adding additional cell sites taking the total to approximately 2,000 by the end of current financial year. The network expansion will not only enhance the customer experience but enable them to enjoy premium services at reasonable prices. Customers can access services like video calling, mobile TV, video on demand, full-track downloads, High-Definition games, etc, on their handsets."

The overall expansion has further strengthened Tata Docomo's position to ensure the company's rapidly growing customer base enjoys seamless services; even while in the hinterland.

He added, "We are the only private player to provide 3G services in Haryana and Punjab and expanding our network in a region that will benefit our customers and enable them to use seamless services. We are investing in strengthening our existing network to increase its capacities many fold to offer superior data experience at affordable price points. We continue to be committed to offering the best quality network, coverage and reach for our customers. This is in line with our overall business strategy to identify and invest in high growth markets. Our customers can now access 3G services both on pre-paid and post-paid platforms with the combination of various plans available on voice and data. These services will enable richer communication through video calls and SMSs, will add the advantage of adding mobility to the power of the internet, and will enable millions to start accessing the true power of the Internet."

The company currently has 45,000 retailers in Punjab and Haryana and will increase it on the need basis.
