Wood Group plans to ramp up workforce in India

Press Trust Of India New Delhi

Scottish energy services firm Wood Group plans to increase its workforce in India to more than 200 people by March next year.

"We are rapidly increasing our workforce. We are planning to hire for at least 70-80 positions by the end of first quarter (of 2013)," Wood Group PSN's Regional Director David Clark said today.

Currently, Wood Group employs about 150 people in India. Talking to reporters here, Clark said the group has just set up a new engineering facility in the country with an initial investment of USD 1.2 million.

Wood Group is an independent services provider for oil & gas as well as power generation markets.

According to Clark, the new facility would primarily cater to the group's projects in other countries including UAE, Oman and Bahrain.

The facility would have capacity for around 150 people. Besides the USD 1.2 million initial investment, the group would further invest in people and infrastructure. Sounding bullish about Indian market, he said, "there are also huge opportunities in the country (for us)". Scotland's Minister for External Affairs and Culture Fiona Hyslop said that many Scottish companies, including those in the oil & gas sector, are planning to come to India.
