Air Traffic Up 16% In Nov

Signaling a gradual return to health post- 9/11, the aviation passenger traffic continued its upward trend in November 2002.
According to figures released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the passenger traffic increased 16.4 per cent at 3.74 million passengers in November 2002 as compared to November 2001.
The passenger traffic in November 2002, however, posted only a 2 per cent increase over the previous month.

With November being the traditional peak season for inbound traffic, the international traffic contributed in good measure to the overall growth.
The airports handled 1.22 million international passengers during the month, which was a 18.1 per cent increase over November 2001. The number of domestic passengers handled was 2.52 million, an increase of 15.6 per cent.
During April-November 2002 the number of passengers handled by the airports went up 7.2 per cent at 27.98 million over the corresponding period in 2001.
The airports handled 18.6 million domestic passengers during April-November 2002, a 7.5 per cent increase over the same period in 2001.
According to the AAI, the airports registered a 6.6 per cent growth in international traffic handled at 9.39 million passengers during April-November 2002 over the same period last year.
November 2002 witnessed 46,950 aircraft movements (9,590 international and the rest domestic) during November 2002, a 15.4 per cent increase over the same month previous year.
There was also a 13 per cent increase in cargo traffic at 78,460 tonnes during November 2002 over November 2001.
During April-November 2002 the airports registered 365,010 aircraft movements, an increase of 9.9 per cent over April-November 2001.
The cargo handled during the period was 655,080 tonnes, an increase of 16.9 per cent over the corresponding period of 2001.
