Development roadmap worked out for Sikkim

Press Trust Of India Gangtok
The Sikkim government has drawn up an elaborate development roadmap for the state with special thrust on industrialisation, official sources said here.

The cabinet gave its approval to this roadmap at its first meeting after the distribution of portfolios among ministers which was presided over by the chief minister Pawan Kumar Chamling here recently, they said.

Though covering all key departments the roadmap which is basically aimed at ensuring transparency and effective administration puts special emphasis on the hill state's industrial development.

As a first step the state industries department has been asked to notify the areas along the national highway which are conducive to the growth of industries.

The roadmap also recommends privatisation of all sick and non-viable industrial units run by the government including the Sikkim flour mills, Sikkim jewels, Sikkim Mining Corporation, Sikkim nationalised transport bus services and the government fruit preservation factory.
