EC to use colour envelopes in coming polls

Press Trust of India Thane

The Election Commission (EC) has decided to use colour envelopes for poll materials during the coming general elections.

An instructions recently issued by the EC has directed all the poll officers to make use of envelopes of different colours to avoid any mix up in the documents.

"While keeping the various forms and other materials used in the polling station are put in wrong covers and it becomes difficult to locate documents in case of some court cases or such other requirements," the EC directives said.

The EC has specified different colours for different covers--the first packet should contain the sealed covers superscribed as 'Statutory Cover' with Green colour.

The second one in a Yellow cover should be superscribed as 'Non-Statutory Cover'.

The third which will be Brown envelope will contain seven specified items. While all other documents and items not specified in the list will be put in a separate cover which will be Blue, the Commission directed.

Additionally when elections to both assembly and Parliament are held simultaneously the EC has said that the voters slip for Lok Sabha should be in White colour and assembly in Pink colour.
