Finance minister P Chidambaram expressed hope that regardless of any government at the Centre, the country wold grow at 5-6 per cent. Besides, he stressed on effective governance to ensure higher growth rates of 8 to 9 per cent in the economy.
Addressing officials at the first edition of Shriram group sponsored Sanlam awards for 'Excellence in Financial Journalism' - 2012-13, he said, in the next 20-40 years, the Indian economy would continue to grow higher and witness China-like GDP growth.
He added, for the country to be successful, it should focus on key advantages like land mass, untapped natural resources, huge population, growing entrepreneur class and the aspiring young population.
