Winter session of Parliament from Nov 19

Press Trust of India New Delhi

The month-long winter session of Parliament will commence on November 19, it was officially announced today.

Subject to exigencies of government business, the session, which will have 23 sittings, is likely to conclude on December 21, a Lok Sabha Secretariat bulletin said.

The decision to convene the session on November 19 was taken at a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Parliamentary Affairs (CCPA) chaired by Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

At the end of the budget session this year, both the government and the opposition had favoured at least 100 sittings of Parliament in a year and the winter session to be a six-week affair.

Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar had even felt that Parliament should sit for at least 110 days in a year.

Normally, the winter session lasts for four weeks beginning in the last week of November and ending just ahead Christmas.
