IIMA to consider 20 % hike in fee structure

The Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad (IIMA) is looking for a fee hike of 15-20 per cent for the two-year post graduate diploma in business management programme (PGDBM), this year onwards.

Currently, the fee for PGDBM is Rs 1.58 lakh per annum.

Against this, the spending per student is around Rs 3.5 lakh per year which, leaves a deficit of around Rs 2 lakh annually for each student.

There are around 250 PGDBM students and the deficit subsequently amounts to around Rs 10 crore.

The hike is expected to be about 15-20 per cent, following which, the students, taking up this programme, will have to pay at least Rs 45,000 more when the session begins this summer.

When contacted, an IIMA official confirmed to Business Standard, "We are holding a board meeting in the first week of April and fee hike is one of the agenda of the meeting."

However, a final decision on the fee hike and the amount will be taken in the meeting, he added.

However, the institute will not increase its intake. "We are not increasing the intake for at least the next two sessions," the official said.

"The admission process of this year is already on and if we want to increase the intake, we need to look at the infrastructure for the same," he added.
