Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) today said any price less than Rs 280 per quintal of sugarcane will not be acceptable to the farmers and pressed on their demands for an increase in the minimum support price of the crop.

Talking to reporters here, BKU president Mahender Singh Tikait alleged that the Uttar Pradesh Government has not yet announced the sugarcane prices for the current crushing season due to the pressure from sugar mill owners.

Tikait, who is also the head of Balyan Khap Council, said the farmers will decide their future course of action for raising the sugarcane prices in the Khap Mahapanchayat to be held from November 13 at Shoram Village here.

The two-day Khap Mahpanchayat of Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and other parts of the country will also discuss same-gotra marriage issue, he said.
