Barley futures up on fresh buying

Barley prices hardened by Rs 8.60, or 0.66, to Rs 1,309 per quintal in futures trade today owing to speculative buying by traders in line with firm spot markets cue.

Marketmen said less arrivals as well as heavy buying by beer makers in physical markets, led to a rise in barley futures prices here.

At the National commodity and Derivatives Exchange platform, barley prices for the delivery for December-month rose Rs 8.60, or 0.66 per cent, to Rs 1,309 per quintal, with an open interest of 420 lots.

Mid November-month delivery also fashioned in a similar manner and rose by Rs 6.40, or 0.50 per cent, to Rs 1,294.80 per quintal, with an open interest of 3,320 lots, while the current October-month contract went up by Rs 5, or 0.39 per cent, to Rs 1,274 per quintal, with an open interest of 13,400 lots.
