Sensex down 177pts; Maruti slips 5%

The Sensex is now down 177 points at 13,914.

SBI has tumbled over 6% to Rs 1,100. ICICI Bank and HDFC Bank have dropped over 5% each to Rs 905 and Rs 1,016, respectively.

Maruti has slipped nearly 5% to Rs 848, and Grasim has shed 3.4% to Rs 2,658.

HDFC has declined 2.7% to Rs 1,677. Larsen & Toubro, Dr.Reddy's, Infosys, Tata Motors, NTPC and Ranaxy are the other major losers.

Hindalco has surged 2.7% to Rs 146, and Tata Steel has added 1.7% to Rs 439.

Wipro and Gujarat Ambuja have advanced over 1% each to Rs 646 and Rs 132, respectively.

Out of 2,316 stocks traded so far, 1,711 have declined, 565 have advanced and 40 are unchanged.
