Islamic State (IS) militants have claimed responsibility for the attack outside an event exhibiting depictions of the Prophet Muhammad in the US state of Texas ' suburban Dallas.

According to BBC, IS' al-Bayan Radio news bulletin said that "two soldiers of the caliphate" launched the attack in Texas.

IS claimed that the reason why they attacked the conference was that the exhibition "was portraying negative pictures of the Prophet Muhammad".

Both suspects were shot dead after opening fire at the centre on Sunday.

The security officer who was wounded was released from a local hospital later in the day.
