New Zealand batsman Jesse Ryder is expected to be named in the national eleven to face a West Indies selection in their tour opener in Christchurch but a full international comeback would not be till Boxing Day at the earliest.

According to Stuff.co.nz, Ryder hasn't played for New Zealand since February 2012, and after several off-field issues, made a blazing return to first-class cricket with 117 for Otago against Wellington last month.

He missed out in three subsequent domestic innings, but New Zealand's selectors are keen to test him at the next level, and experience the Black Caps environment, the report said.

The Test squad will be named on November 25, and won't include Ryder who only eight months ago suffered a serious assault in Christchurch, the report added.

Should he continue to score runs and show he's ready, he will be seriously considered for the first one-day international in Auckland on Boxing Day, according to the report.
