ANI California

Visiting Indian Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has told participants at an event in California that the NDA Government could consider calling a joint session of parliament if the Rajya Sabha stalled the passing of the Land Acquisition Bill.

Speaking at a presentation on India's economic future, Jaitley said government is still hopeful about not having to reach that situation, and iuf it had to, it had the numbers as per the constitutional mechanism.

Jaitley said the government would like to make sure that this landmark reform in India does take place, but refused to give a time line for convening a joint session of Parliament.

He said the BJP and its coalition partners have enough numbers to get the bill passed if there is a joint session.

He said the bill is currently before the Parliamentary Joint Committee.
