England football legend Paul Gascoigne has begged fans not to buy him booze, adding that he did not need alcohol, but love.

The 46-year-old told best friend Jimmy Gardner he completely supported The Sun's campaign to stop pub landlords and shopkeepers selling him alcohol.

Gazza told his friend that he would get through the mess in his life soon and will stop drinking, but couldn't do it on his own and needed constant help and support.

Gazza also urged football fans, who bump into him in public, not to buy him a drink.

He said people should just give him a lot of love and encouragement to keep him going rather than buying booze.

Gazza made his plea after emerging following a five-day bender that ended with him in hospital, the report added.
