Union Minister of State for Culture and Tourism Dr. Mahesh Sharma on Wednesday offered his condolences over the passing away of noted sculptor Mrinalini Mukherjee, adding that her demise has left a vacuum in the world of art.
"I am deeply saddened to learn of the demise of Mrinalini Mukherjee. She leaves behind a vacuum in the world of art. Her artistic works brought laurels to her not only in India, but in the outside world also. Her artistic qualities provide her at a unique place in contemporary Indian art," said Sharma in his condolence message.
"My deep sympathies are with the art lovers and all others who admire Mrinaliniji's work. We should work in the direction of promotion and conservation of such artistic works which are left behind as a legacy by such great artists," he added.
The 65-year-old sculptor has to her credit a splendid career in the field of sculptures.
Her artistic works are known for the use of knotted hemp fibre, ceramics and cast bronze.
The exhibitions of her work have been held abroad in the countries like UK, Belgium and Taiwan.
