Metal shares fall

Metal stocks were trading in the negative zone, with the S&P BSE Metal index falling 532.28 points or 7.89% at 6213.69 at 13:53 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Metal index, Hindalco Industries Ltd (down 10.9%), Vedanta Ltd (down 10.16%),Steel Authority of India Ltd (down 9.56%),Jindal Steel & Power Ltd (down 9.47%),JSW Steel Ltd (down 8.98%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Tata Steel Ltd (down 8.31%), NMDC Ltd (down 7.33%), Hindustan Zinc Ltd (down 5.04%), National Aluminium Company Ltd (down 5.02%), and Coal India Ltd (down 3.7%).

At 13:53 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 1806.45 or 5.36% at 31911.17.

 

The Nifty 50 index was down 514.95 points or 5.22% at 9344.95.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 298.88 points or 2.69% at 10802.96.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 139.04 points or 3.54% at 3792.89.

On BSE,550 shares were trading in green, 1745 were trading in red and 149 were unchanged.
