Telecom shares fall

Telecom stocks were trading in the negative zone, with the S&P BSE Telecom index falling 47.96 points or 5.05% at 901.28 at 13:48 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Vodafone Idea Ltd (down 17.7%), Tejas Networks Ltd (down 5.15%),Bharti Airtel Ltd (down 4.72%),Bharti Infratel Ltd (down 4.22%),Optiemus Infracom Ltd (down 3.81%), were the top losers. Among the other losers were Reliance Communications Ltd (down 2.86%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd (down 1.63%), Vindhya Telelinks Ltd (down 1.36%), and ITI Ltd (down 1.34%).

On the other hand, Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 4.92%), and GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 2.27%) moved up.

 

At 13:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was down 173.87 or 0.45% at 38884.96.

The Nifty 50 index was down 52.5 points or 0.45% at 11551.6.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was down 31.34 points or 0.24% at 13191.72.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was down 19.73 points or 0.44% at 4496.09.

On BSE,977 shares were trading in green, 1297 were trading in red and 139 were unchanged.
