Telecom shares spurt

Telecom stocks were trading in the positive zone, with the S&P BSE Telecom index rising 79.66 points or 7.14% at 1195.88 at 09:48 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Vodafone Idea Ltd (up 17.28%), Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 7.75%),Reliance Communications Ltd (up 4.94%),GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 4.08%),Bharti Infratel Ltd (up 3.71%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Tejas Networks Ltd (up 2.68%), OnMobile Global Ltd (up 2.31%), Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 2.22%), Sterlite Technologies Ltd (up 1.78%), and ITI Ltd (up 1.64%).

On the other hand, Optiemus Infracom Ltd (down 1.25%), moved lower.

 

At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 189.44 or 0.46% at 40983.25.

The Nifty 50 index was up 50.9 points or 0.42% at 12106.95.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 8.32 points or 0.06% at 13568.89.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 0.76 points or 0.02% at 4762.54.

On BSE,770 shares were trading in green, 716 were trading in red and 109 were unchanged.
