Telecom stocks edge higher

Telecom stocks were trading in green, with the S&P BSE Telecom index increasing 16.33 points or 1.45% at 1141.77 at 09:48 IST.

Among the components of the S&P BSE Telecom index, Vodafone Idea Ltd (up 6.67%), Reliance Communications Ltd (up 4.49%),Bharti Infratel Ltd (up 3.79%),GTL Infrastructure Ltd (up 3.77%),HFCL Ltd (up 1.12%), were the top gainers. Among the other gainers were Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Ltd (up 0.57%), Bharti Airtel Ltd (up 0.36%), and Sterlite Technologies Ltd (up 0.16%).

On the other hand, Optiemus Infracom Ltd (down 4.99%), Tejas Networks Ltd (down 3.05%), and ITI Ltd (down 1.12%) turned lower.

At 09:48 IST, the S&P BSE Sensex was up 61.94 or 0.15% at 40737.39.

 

The Nifty 50 index was up 4.35 points or 0.04% at 11998.55.

The S&P BSE Small-Cap index was up 18.38 points or 0.14% at 13427.3.

The S&P BSE 150 Midcap Index index was up 20.85 points or 0.44% at 4719.4.

On BSE,715 shares were trading in green, 689 were trading in red and 98 were unchanged.
