The induction of Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma into the Narendra Modi ministry Sunday took the number of ministers from Delhi and adjoining NCR cities to five.

Apart from Delhi, the adjoining cities of Gurgaon and Faridabad (Haryana), Gautam Buddh Nagar and Ghaziabad (Uttar Pradesh) now have a representation in the council of ministers.

Chandani Chowk (Delhi) MP Harsh Vardhan is a cabinet minister while Gurgaon MP Rao Inderjit Singh and Ghaziabad MP Gen. V.K. Singh (retd) are ministers of state (independent charge). Faridabad MP Krishan Pal is minister of state.

Sharma was inducted as minister of state (independent charge).

It is not common for a central government to have five union ministers from contiguous areas.
