Clarify govt stand on diluting N Liability Bill Rajnath to PM

UPA government is preparing to dilute provisions of the Nuclear Liability Bill, says the BJP chief

Rajnath Singh

Press Trust of India Guwahati
BJP president Rajnath Singh today demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must clarify reports suggesting that the Centre is preparing to dilute provisions of the Nuclear Liability Bill in the interest of American companies.

Talking to reporters here, Singh referred to media reports that suggested the UPA government was preparing to dilute provisions of the Nuclear Liability Bill and also bypassing the Atomic Energy Commission.

"The UPA government is proceeding to allow US companies to install nuclear reactors in the country on their own terms," he alleged.

Noting that "the nation is concerned about these media reports," the BJP chief said, "The Prime Minister must clarify and make a statement on the actual status."

There were recent media reports suggesting that during the Prime Minister's proposed US visit an agreement not in accordance with the law could be signed for nuclear reactor supply. The government has, however, denied the media reports.
