90 Bangladeshi families cross over to Tripura

Unrest in Bangladesh's Khagracherri district has led around 90 Bangladeshi families to cross the unfenced Indo-Bangla border and take shelter at Tuichakma in Tripura's Dhalai district, official sources said today.

District Magistrate, Dr Milind K Ramteke who was camping at Tuichakma ADC village, today confirmed the influx of Bangladeshi nationals in some border areas of the district.

"We are collecting information about the families, who have come over from across the border," Ramteke said.

The BSF will organise a flag meeting at Mayang BOP this evening where BGB's wing commander of Naraicherra BOP will be present to resolve the problem, he said.
 

"We are optimistic of sending all the Bangladeshi nationals back to their homeland," he said.

The families, mostly Chakma and Tripuri ethnic tribes were residents of Naraicheeri, Dakshin Baghaihaat, North Baghaihaat and Dewanpara in Khagracherri district of Bangladesh.

Top police and BSF officials were camping at Tuichakma ADC village, an unfenced border village of Ganadacherra subdivision.

Tension was running high at Khagracherri in Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts following skirmish between members of the United Democratic Front and Bangladesh Border Guards which led the Bangla nationals to take shelter on Indian soil.

Vigil was intensified along the unfenced Indo-Bangla especially with CHT by the BSF.

Though 80 per cent of the Indo-Bangla border was fenced, some stretches on the state's eastern border including Gandacherra, Korbok and Longthrai Valley still remained unfenced.
