BSF today seized an AK-47 Assault rifle along with a magazine from the house of notorious arms and drug smuggler Balwant Singh in Rawla Mandi area of Sriganganagar district.
Following a tip off, a joint search operation was carried out by the 16 Battalion of BSF and local police and the weapon was found buried in an open area of the house in a gunny bag.
According to the DIG (BSF) Ravi Gandhi, information regarding some weapons been hidden in Balwant Singh's house was received.

"We organised a team and initiated a search operation along with the police on Monday morning. Initially, there was no success but after scanning the area with metal detectors, we zeroed in on a place and found a gunny bag on digging," Gandhi said.
"In this gunny bag, one AK-47 rifle was found wrapped in a piece of cloth along with a magazine," he said, adding that the same were handed over to police.
Balwant Singh was caught last year with 21 kg heroin in Punjab and has been in Ferozepur jail since May 2015.
Earlier, he was also caught with one AK-47 rifle, one magazine, one 9mm pistol and 24 8mm rounds in 2014.
