Bank employee washed away in floods: man killed in landslip

: Flash floods in Thalawady forest area claimed the life of a bank employee in Erode district, while a man was killed and another hospitalised in a landslip triggered by heavy rains in Yercaud, police said.

Lakshmanan (42) and his brother-in-law were travelling in a motorbike yesterday when they approached a swollen jungle stream. While the pillon rider jumped to safety, the bank employee tried to cross it, but was washed away, they said.

Fire and rescue services personnel and some villagers launched a search to locate the body of Lakhsmanan, police said

Lightning struck the tower of the Mariamman temple in Erode, resulting in cracks, while power supply was stopped in some areas after a tree fell on a live wire, they said.
 

A report from Salem, said a 23-year-old man was killed in a landslide at Yercaud. Another person was injured and he has been hospitalised, it said.
