Four officials of a private sugar mill here have been booked for allegedly failing to pay the dues to cane farmers.

Modi Sugar Mills owner Umesh Modi, manager (commercial) VK Jain, trustee NK Sharma, and Chief Executive VK Luthra were booked last night in this connection, Modinagar SHO Deepak Sharma said.

Yesterday, Rashtriya Lok Dal MLA from Modinagar Sudesh Sharma had threatened to launch an agitation if cases were not registered against the sugar mill officials.

Today BJP staged a protest at tehsil highlighting the issues of farmers.

Allahabad High Court had earlier directed the defaulting private sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh to settle their cane arrears by April 20.
