The Allahabad High Court today asked Uttar Pradesh government to file its reply on a Public Interest Litigation demanding filling up of all vacant posts of Assistant Teachers in primary schools across the state. A division bench comprising Justice Dilip Gupta and Justice R N Kakkar passed the order on the PIL of one Mayank Tiwari who has also sought directions to the state government to make available online the data relating to Assistant Teachers already working in schools.

The petitioner has alleged that there were more than 16,000 primary schools in the state with just one teacher each and that this scenario was resulting in deprivation of a large number of children of their right to compulsory education.

The court, while directing the state government to file its counter-affidavit, fixed the matter for further hearing on July 11 next.
