The new military station being built in Murshidabad district at a cost of Rs 600 crore will be an eco-friendly one, Army Chief General Bikram Singh said here today.

The military station will be developed as a model environment-friendly project by integrating it with the existing topography, natural features and water bodies, Singh said after President Pranab Mukherjee laid the foundation stone of the military base here.

The project, to be ready by 2018, will cover 250 acre and involve an investment of Rs 600 crore. It will also benefit the people living nearby by generating opportunities for socio-economic development.

The focus will also be to earn the goodwill of the people in the area through a disciplined and scrupulously people-friendly code of conduct, Gen Singh said.

"Development of military stations in various parts of the country is important for our capability development initiatives," said the Army chief.
