Police today refuted media reports about an aborted bid by the mining mafia on the life of a woman IAS officer at Roorkee in the district.

"There was no attack by the mining mafia on Roorkee's Joint Magistrate Sonika as reported by a section of the media today," Haridwar SSP Rajiv Swarup said.

Narrating the incident, he said the Joint Magistrate did go to Solani river for inspection on last night but there was no attack on her as was reported.

"When she tried to stop a tractor trolley loaded with sand, its driver turned the vehicle towards the fields and escaped," he said.

The joint Magistrate has not lodged any report saying there was an attempt to run her over by the mining mafia when she went for inspection to the Solani river, he said, adding the driver of the tractor trolley and his accomplice have been arrested.

A section of the media here carried reports this morning saying there was an attempt by the mining mafia to run over the officer when she went to the river last night to check quarrying.
