The prisoners, including two hardcore ULFA insurgents Bijoy Ingti and Rajib Das, were transported by a special ferry over Brahmaputra to Majuli island with police and CRPF personnel guarding them.

With the flood waters receding from the island, the sources said, Majuli jail was now suitable for habitation.

On September 25 the inmates were transported by a special ferry to Jorhat for their safe custody when the Majuli jail was submerged by the last wave of floods that brought almost 80 per cent area of the island under water.
