Youth killed in road mishap, villagers clash with police

A 22-year youth was crushed to death by a truck here, following which enraged locals clashed with police leaving at least 12 people, including policemen, injured in Ekdil area today.

Avdhesh Kumar was killed after his motorcycle was hit by a truck on National Highway-2 this morning, SSP Etawah Nilabja Chaudhary said.

The locals blocked the traffic on the highway route and set ablaze the truck, the police official said.

Villagers pelted stones on the police team which resorted to mild cane-charge to disperse the gathering, the SSP said.

The locals also opened fire on policemen leading to injuries to two Sub Inspectors and a Constable, Chaudhary said.
 

SI Amar Singh has been admitted to district hospital.

In the incident, a police jeep was damaged by the locals and police had to open fire in the air to control the situation, the SSP said, adding, "the situation is now under control."

Three youths have been taken into custody from the spot, Chaudhary said.

To prevent any untoward incident, police and Provincial Armed Constabulary have been deployed in Ekdil area.

Meanwhile, locals alleged that about nine villagers including, the mother of the deceased, have been injured in the lathi-charge.
