Computer Associates-TCG Software Pvt Ltd (CATS), a subsidiary of global software major Computer Associates(CA) and a 51:49 joint venture with The Chatterjee Group, is set to expand its activities in the country under second phase of growth which including developing CATS software facilities in Calcutta and Delhi as the technology hub outside USA for developing CA's leading technology and branded software products & applications.

CATS, which went onstream in April 1998, has witnessed a 170 per cent growth during 1999-2000. CATS started with product development and service implementation and has now graduated to taking up new technology work and applications.

 

"We are planning to increase our pool of skilled software personnels to around 450 during the current year from the current 300 as part of our second phase of growth in India," said Rajeev Goswami, chief executive officer, CATS.

Currently CATS facility in Calcutta is already involved in developing CA's flagship product, Unicenter TNG, and some other branded products like Jasmine ii and some activities for artificial intelligence software, Neugent.

"We are currently gearing up to focus on emerging areas and applications based on wireless application protocol, portal development and other related applications," Goswami said.

During the year, CATS is likely to take up development work for Aon -- a rule-based artificial intelligence engine -- from the CA stable. Work for another Internet security product, eTrust will also be taken up in Calcutta, Goswami said.

"We are now attracting leading industry talents and have also managed to keep the attrition rate well below the industry average," Goswami said.

CATS has become the largest development center for CA outside US serving CA and its clients from Australia in the far east to California working closely with CA's development centers in the US and UK.

CATS has been behind many a successful CA product including the ATM Management Option for Unicenter TNG, E-commerce infrastructure and Jasmine ii(intelligent infrastructure).

The Jasmine group at CATS was part of the team that worked behind the making of Jasmine ii. Critical components of the hot CA product-the ideal intelligent information infrastructure for e-business - were developed at the CATS facility in Calcutta.

CATS list of clients include GE Capital, ANZ, Pepsi, SmithKline Beecham, Infy, American Express, Siemens, Air Service Australia, Northland Health, New Zealand etc.
