Punjab Pcc Chief Quits, Asks Sonia To Lead

BSCAL

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Santokh Singh Randhawa yesterday resigned from his post in protest against bogus organisational elections of the state unit at the grassroot level and asked Sonia Gandhi to take over the party's mantle at the national level .

Addressing a press conference here, Randhawa said he would fax his resignation letter to the Congress president, Sitaram Kesri.

Randhawa, who was made PPCC chief six months back said that district returning officers (dros) and assistant returning officers (aros) appointed by Prabha Rao, the state returning officer have done nothing to constitute about 10,000 primary units at the grassroot level.

Randhawa said that the party needed a new leadership to protect the democratic norms and party ideology at this juncture when the country was celebrating the 50th year of independence. He said the Congress party fought for it and then devoted itself to strengthening the democracy and worked for the country's development and progress .

Therefore, I earnestly appeal to Sonia Gandhi to come forward to lead the Congress party as she has behind her the legacy of great leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru and the supreme sacrifices by Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, he said.
