Rajasthan Secures Lower Tariff For 2 Power Projects

The Rajasthan government has been able to secure a lower tariff for its two lignite-fired private sector power projects than the only other similar project coming up in the country: Neyveli Zero Unit in Tamil Nadu.
The total levelised tariff for the Kapurdi and Jalipa projects in Rajasthan is Rs 2.52 per unit, compared to Rs 2.54 per unit for the Neyveli project.
The capital cost per mw for the Kapurdi and Jalipa projects is Rs 4.01 crore, compared to Rs 4.80 crore for Neyveli.

The state government had invited global bids for setting up of thermal power plants based on lignite deposits at Kapurdi and Jalipa in Barmer district.
These deposits can sustain power plants of 500 mw at Kapurdi and 1,000 mw in Jalipa.
Accordingly, the bids were invited for 2x250 mw lignite mining cum power generation project at Kapurdi and 2x250 mw Stage-I and 2x250 Stage-II lignite mining cum power generation project at Jalipa.
The Rajasthan State Electricity Board has recommended West Power as the sponsor for both Kapurdi and Jalipa projects.
The state electricity board (SEB) has already started negotiating the power purchase agreement with West Power.
