Share Prices Recover After Early Slump On Local Buying

After an initial weakness, the pivotal prices recovered smartly following renewed buying interest by local operators, at the National Stock Exchange (NSE) yesterday.
Reflecting the mixed trend, the NSE-50 index opened at 1,084.80 points, touched the days high of 1,085.20, declined to the days low of 1,068.40 points and later closed at 1,080.95 points, netting a further loss of 4.05 points over the previous close of 1,085.00 points.

Similarly, the Midcap index declined by 8.15 points to 1,223.45 points. As against the previous close of 1,231.60 points. Total turnover on the NSE reported during the day was Rs 1,320.16 crore.
ITC registered highest turnover of Rs 657.03 crore, followed by Tata Tea Rs 120.76 crore, Reliance Rs 128.50 crore, SBI in Rs 103.28 crore and MTNL Rs 42.44 crore.
Hectic activity was observed at other counters like Tisco Rs 23.91 crore, ACC Rs 35.36 crore, Telco Rs 18.99 crore, Hind Lever Rs 11.39 crore, Castrol Rs 16.05 crore, Bhel Rs 14.70 crore, LML Rs 9.87 crore, Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited Rs 9.03 crore, Satyam Comp Rs 7.97 crore, Soft Int Rs 6.07 crore, Hero Honda Rs 4.00 crore, IPCL Rs 5.23 crore, Colgate Rs 2.60 crore.
Among the top gainers, Associated Cement Company gained by 2.36 per cent to Rs 1,186.85, Indian Petrochemicals Limited by 2.15 per cent to Rs 90.45, Indian Hotels gained by 1.33 per cent to Rs 590.05, ITC by 1.14 per cent to Rs 567.50 and Cochin Refinaries went up by 1.12 per cent to Rs 166.30.
Ponds lost by 2.47 per cent to Rs 939.35, Gujarat Ambuja Cement declined by 2.16 per cent to Rs 282.90, Bajaj Auto dropped by 2.11 per cent to Rs 566.65 Indogulf Fertilizers fell by 2.11 per cent to 37.20 and Hindalco Industries slid by 1.91 per cent to 957.35.
