Up 'Marriage Of Convenience' Will Last For A Year

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Kanshi Ram yesterday described the present political arrangements in Uttar Pradesh as a marriage of convenience between his party and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which would last for one year.
Talking to reporters here Kanshi Ram, however, said the going on, with Mayawati as the Chief Minister, so far was okay and BSP would be honouring its commitment to instal a BJP nominee to succeed her after the stipulated period of six months.
The arrangement with BJP to form a government in Uttar Pradesh had a limited purpose of keeping away the United Front, he said and made it clear that the BSP had not reached any understadning with the BJP on the question of supporting candidates for the forthcoming presidential election.
The BSP leader claimed that a large number of Congressmen and Janata Dal workers were approaching his party to join it.
