Vajpayee Calls On President

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee called on President K R Narayanan at Rasthrapati Bhavan this evening.

This is the first meeting between the two since the controversy over the Government decision to set up a 11-member committee to review the Constitution on which the two had held divergent views.

The meeting, which lasted for an hour and ten minutes and was described as a routine one" by a Rasthrapati Bhavan spokesman, assumed significance as it took place after a stormy session of Parliament which had seen the Opposition attacking the Government on the Gujarat RSS issue and Bihar Governor V C Pande's action inviting Mr Nitish Kumar to form the government first.
