New tools for data automation from Symantec

IT security solution provider Symantec has announced the launch of new capabilities within its Veritas Server Foundation product family for the emerging field of data centre automation (DCA).
The new capability " Veritas Application Director " enables IT operators to monitor, start and stop complex applications across hundreds of physical or virtual servers on major operating systems in a secure way, said Kris Hagerman, group president (Data Centre Management), Symantec.
To manage the growing complexity of data centres, enterprises require more than automation of existing server administration tasks that traditional DCA products provide. Many enterprises have adopted large-scale shared architectures running complex multi-tier applications across a variety of servers.
"If enterprises are to keep up with the relentless growth in demand for data service centres while keeping costs under control, they need a comprehensive and automated way to control applications, virtual machines, servers and storage. Symantec provides an integrated infrastructure software solution that delivers capabilities in backup, storage management, server management and application performance management across a heterogeneous data centre," Hagerman added.
He said the DCA solutions are built from the ground to be an integral part of Symantec's Data Centre Foundation.
"It enables enterprises to standardise on a single layer of infrastructure software that supports all major applications," he stated.
