RiiiT launches course to meet IT needs

Bs Reporter Chennai/ Mysore
The Mysore-based Raman International Institute of Information Technology (RiiiT) will launch a 12-month course in software programming towards meeting the growing needs for trained technical personnel by IT and ITeS industries.

The one-year course, for a fee of Rs 65,000, is accreditated by the Mysore University and will commence from March, RiiiT CEO Venkatesh said at a press meet on Wednesday.

"The post-graduate diploma course in software programming, aimed at training graduates even from non-technical background with any degree, acts as an IT-finishing school with a focus on communication skills, soft skills and exposure to corporate culture," he said.

Venkatesh said, India produces nearly four lakh engineers every year, but only one in four is employable. Lakhs of graduates come out every year, but only 10 per cent of them are fit to be employed in the IT sector.

Software companies today look for fresh graduates trained in the industry culture and who are well-versed in soft skills, communication skills, along with technical knowledge. The course aims at meeting this need.

Three banks have come forward to support students taking up the course with student-loan facility. The launch of the course in Mysore in particular will enable students in tier II cities to aim for openings in the IT and ITeS sectors.

Cambridge University is the official publisher of RiiiT IT skill books. RiiiT has a presence in Europe and in China too.
