The rollout of 5G services can unleash new economic opportunities and help India leapfrog the traditional barriers to development, while boosting innovation by startups and businesses, the Economic Survey said. The massive wave of digitisation, rising penetration of smartphones, and technology adoption have opened the doors for both traditional and new-age sectors, observed the Economic Survey 2022-23, which was tabled in Parliament on Tuesday. "The rollout of 5G services can unleash new economic opportunities and help the country leapfrog the traditional barriers to development, spur innovations by startups and business enterprises, and advance the 'Digital India' vision," it said. The journey is "far from complete and a lot remains to be accomplished to realise our true potential". The survey made a mention of the interstate disparity in teledensity, where rural areas trailed urban locations in the telecom penetration, but added in the same breath that the catch-up by the rural .

Jio announces largest-ever launch of 'True 5G' services across 50 cities

Reliance Jio on Tuesday announced the roll out of its 5G services across 50 cities, terming it the largest-ever launch of these services. According to Jio statement, these cities are spread across Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Haryana, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Puducherry, and Kerala. Other States include Maharashtra, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal. With this, Jio users across 184 cities are now experiencing 5G services, the telco's statement said. "Reliance Jio today announced the largest-ever launch of its True 5G services across 50 cities," the company said. Jio users in these cities will be invited to the Jio Welcome Offer, to experience Unlimited Data at up to 1 Gbps plus speeds, at no additional cost, starting today. Jio rolls out 5G service in Chhattisgarh; available in 3 cities initially

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Saturday launched Jio 5G service in the state. The service will be initially available in three cities- state capital Raipur, Durg and Bhilai. Jio is the first and only operator to start True 5G services in Chhattisgarh, an official statement said. The CM launched the service at an event held at his official residence to mark the occasion of Makar Sankranti, it said. Telecom operator Reliance Jio on Monday announced the launch of its 5G services in 10 more cities. These include Agra, Kanpur, Meerut, Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh), Tirupati, Nellore (Andhra Pradesh), Kozhikode, Thrissur (Kerala), Nagpur, Ahmednagar (Maharashtra), according to a Jio statement. Jio users in these cities will be invited to the Jio Welcome Offer to experience unlimited data at up to 1 Gbps-plus speeds, at no additional cost, starting Monday. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel launch 5G services in Bhubaneswar

Telecom operators Jio and Bharti Airtel on Thursday started their 5G services in the state capital. The 5G services of both the companies were unveiled by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and Union Telecom Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw at an event here. Vaishnaw said that the Narendra Modi government has sanctioned a total of Rs 5,600 crore for telecom services in Odisha in the 2022-23 and 5,000 mobile towers will be installed across the state for world class communication facilities. Vaishnaw had committed to start 5G services in the state before January 26. Telecom Secretary K Rajaraman said that the government has also dedicated 100 towers for 4G services in rural areas of the state. He announced the setting up of a 5G research lab at Siksha O Anusandhan (SOA) University in collaboration with Jio.

5G services to be launched in Odisha before 2023 Republic Day: Vaishnaw

Asserting that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 5,600 crore for telecom services in Odisha, Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday said 5G services will be launched in the eastern state before the Republic Day celebrations next year. In an apparent reference to the ruling BJD in the state, Vaishnaw also said "now, no one can make an allegation that the Centre is neglecting Odisha's telecom sector. "The Modi government has sanctioned a total of Rs 5,600 crore for telecom services in Odisha, and 5G services will be launched in the state before the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2023, he said. Vaishnaw, the minister of railways, communications, electronics and information technology, said a survey was recently conducted in all villages of Odisha where mobile towers are not available.
