AAP delegation to meet EC officials, raise Awadh Ojha's vote transfer issue

A delegation of AAP leaders led by national convener Arvind Kejriwal will meet the Election Commission officials at 3 pm on Monday to raise the issue of transfer of vote of party's Patparganj candidate Awadh Ojha from Greater Noida to Delhi. Addressing a press conference here, Kejriwal said that it was an urgent issue since Ojha's candidature depended on transfer of his vote to Delhi so that he can file the nomination papers. Ojha filed Form 8 for transfer of his vote from Greater Noida to Delhi on January 7 -- the last day to do so -- but the chief electoral officer, Delhi, through an order changed the last date to January 6, the AAP chief claimed. "This is against the law," he said and suspected that the move was aimed at "deliberately debarring" Ojha from contesting the polls. Kejriwal said that although no appointment was given by the Election Commission (EC), but the party delegation will go there and wait for a meeting with the chief election commissioner since the matter was

Delhi LG calls Kejriwal's claims on Shakur Basti slum 'false, misleading'

Delhi LG VK Saxena on Sunday accused AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal of giving "false and misleading" statements on Shakur Basti slum and asked him to refrain from it or face action by the DDA. Kejriwal earlier in the day visited Shakur Basti slum in North West Delhi district, where he accused the BJP of prioritising land acquisition over the welfare of slum dwellers. "They want your votes first and your land after the elections," Kejriwal said to the people and claimed that the BJP wanted the slums to be demolished. Saxena in a video statement refuted Kejriwal's claims on the Shakur Basti slum land as "completely false" "Hon'ble LG @LtGovDelhi Shri VK Saxena, calls out Shri @ArvindKejriwal's false and deliberately misleading statements on Shakurbasti Jhuggi Basti," the LG office said in a post sharing Saxena's video statement. Nehru Camp will be turned into model settlement, if we win: BJP Delhi chief

Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva on Sunday said his party will turn Nehru Camp into a "model settlement" with better sanitation by January 2026 if it comes to power. According to a statement released by the party, on his birthday, Sachdeva visited Nehru Camp in the Patparganj constituency as part of the BJP's slum outreach campaign. Addressing the residents, Sachdeva accused the AAP government and its chief Arvind Kejriwal of failing to address the plight of slum dwellers under its rule. He claimed that more than 50,000 flats, meant for slum dwellers, built under the Rajiv Awas Yojana in areas like Narela, were left to decay. "It is ironic that, despite being in power for over 10 years, Arvind Kejriwal has not taken a single initiative to transform slum clusters into model settlements or improve the living standards of residents. The last decade has shown that Kejriwal can only provoke people but cannot improve their lives," Sachdeva said. He also alleged that residents of Ne

Have no claim over any post, AAP spreading misinformation: Ramesh Bidhuri

BJP's Kalkaji candidate Ramesh Bidhuri on Sunday said he was not the party's chief ministerial face and the claim made by AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal was "completely baseless." Kejriwal, citing sources on Saturday, claimed that the BJP had decided to project Bidhuri as its chief ministerial candidate. The same claim had been made by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Friday. Bidhuri said he is a loyal party worker, committed to public service and the country, and has no claim over any post. "I am as much committed towards the people, as I am towards the BJP. Talking about the post of chief minister in reference to me is absolutely baseless," he said. He added, "Kejriwal making announcement with reference to me has admitted that Delhi BJP is going to form government in Delhi." Bidhuri accused Kejriwal of indulging in a sustained "misinformation campaign" against him and warned the Delhi resident against falling into the "trap" of "Aapda" a derisive term his party coined to refer to ..

AAP files complaint against BJP for spreading fake video on Delhi roads

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lodged a complaint with the Election Commission of India against the BJP, accusing it of spreading misinformation and violating the Model Code of Conduct. The complaint alleges that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) shared a false video on social media, depicting pothole-ridden roads as being located in Delhi when they were actually from Faridabad, Haryana. "The party (BJP) has been spreading misinformation through a false video on their social media channels, showcasing roads in Delhi in a deplorable condition. However, it has been exposed that the road featured in the video is actually located in Faridabad, Haryana," said the AAP's complaint letter. The letter attaches screenshots of tweets posted from the BJP's Delhi handle, where the purported videos were shared. It also includes links to videos debunking the claim, showing the actual location of the road. The AAP contended that such acts amount to a "blatant violation" of the Model Code of Conduct

BJP will demolish all slums if it comes to power in Delhi, alleges Kejriwal

AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday claimed that the BJP will demolish all slums in Delhi if it is voted to power in the upcoming assembly elections. Addressing a press conference in the Shakur Basti area here, the former chief minister accused the BJP of prioritising land acquisition over the welfare of slum dwellers. "They want your votes first and your land after the elections," Kejriwal said, referring to the BJP. He also criticised the BJP's 'Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan' scheme, terming it an eyewash. "In the past five years, they have constructed only 4,700 flats for slum dwellers," he added. Kejriwal also alleged that the BJP has plans to take over the land currently occupied by slum dwellers without addressing their housing needs. "They will demolish all the slums and acquire the land without any concern for the people living there," he said. Kejriwal was accompanied by senior AAP leader Satyendar Jain, the party's candidate from Shakur Basti constituency. Jain

Delhi Assembly polls: Smaller players may become spoilsports for Big Three

Fringe political players in Delhi, such as the BSP and AIMIM, are strategising to eat away the votes of the three main contenders -- the AAP, BJP and Congress -- in the upcoming Delhi assembly polls to spoil their gameplan. The BSP is planing to contest all 70 seats while the AIMIM is fielding candidates on about a dozen of Muslim-dominated seats. The two parties have planned rallies by their chiefs Mayawati (BSP) and Asaduddin Owaisi (AIMIM). The smaller political players in the national capital are gearing up to mount a strong challenge in the upcoming polls -- promising to address issues "neglected" in the Muslim-majority localities, combating corruption and pledging good governance, among others. One of them is the Bharatiya Liberal Party (BLP), founded recently by US-based doctor Munish Kumar Raizada and others associated with the Anna Hazare-led anti-corruption movement. Raizada said he and Arvind Kejriwal were part of the anti-corruption movement, but has now decided to give

Delhi elections: BJP attacks Kejriwal with song, poster on 'Sheesh Mahal'

The BJP on Saturday launched a song and poster on "Sheesh Mahal", sharpening its attack on AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on the issue of corruption, ahead of Assembly polls on February 5. The song "Sheesh Mahal Aapda Failane Walon Ka Adda" and a poster titled "Aapda-e-Azam" were released during a press conference of Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva. "The person who came to power for a change and to take care of Delhi modified his own character and behaviour. Delhi people are looking for development while Kejriwal is abusing them for asking questions," Sachdeva said. He said that the released song narrates the story of Kejriwal's "corruption" and the "Sheesh Mahal" readied with taxpayers' money. "Sheesh Mahal" is a political moniker used by the BJP for 6, Flagstaff Road bungalow occupied earlier by Kejriwal as Delhi chief minister to accuse him of "corruption". The AAP has hit back at the BJP citing expenditure on the residence and plane used by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A

AAP accuses BJP of vote buying, embezzlement ahead of Delhi Assembly polls

AAP on Friday alleged that the BJP is buying votes ahead of the Delhi assembly elections, claiming that the saffron party's Delhi leaders have embezzled funds meant for "buying votes with money". Addressing a press conference, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh alleged that the BJP has allocated Rs 10,000 per voter to its leaders for buying votes but only a fraction of the money reached the intended recipients. "Instead of distributing the full amount, BJP leaders allegedly handed out only Rs 1,000 or Rs 1,100 to voters, pocketing the remaining Rs 9,000 for themselves," Singh said. In response, Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva dismissed the allegations as baseless, claiming they reflect AAP's desperation. "The words used by Arvind Kejriwal and his comrades in today's political statement reflect their uncultured social upbringing as well as lack of political ethics," Sachdeva said. He added, "Since last September, AAP leaders have known they have lost political .

Kejriwal promises funds for RWAs to hire security guards if AAP wins

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Friday announced that RWAs will be provided funds to hire private guards to ensure security in the neighbourhoods, if his party returns to power in Delhi. Making the announcement in a press conference, Kejriwal said the guidelines on the amount and the number of guards will be laid down later. The former Delhi chief minister slammed the BJP, saying its government at the Centre has failed to control the "escalating" crime in Delhi. Asserting that the two crore people in Delhi were like family to him, he said their safety was the top priority of the Aam Aadmi Party. If two crore people of Delhi are hurt, I am hurt. After the AAP government is formed in Delhi, Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) will receive government funds to appoint security guards," he said. The crime rate has "skyrocketed" in the city with rampant thefts, robberies, chain snatching and even gang wars, Kejriwal said. Targeting the BJP, he said the BJP and its central government ha
