The AAP has become the third political party, following the BJP and Mayawati's Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), to release its first list of candidates for the Madhya Pradesh polls
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday announced the first list of 10 candidates, including nominees for two seats in Bhopal district currently held by the ruling BJP, for the upcoming Madhya Pradesh assembly polls. With this, the AAP has become the third political party, after the BJP and the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), to release its first list of candidates for the year-end polls whose schedule is yet to be announced. The Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit had earlier announced it will field candidates in all the 230 assembly seats in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-ruled state. The list includes candidates from Bhopal district's Govindpura seat, Sajjan Singh Parmar, and Dr Ravikant Dwivedi from Huzur in the state capital, a party release said here. Both Govindpura and Huzur segments are currently represented by BJP MLAs Krishna Gaur and Rameshwar Sharma, respectively. The list also includes the names of candidates from Sewda (Sanjay Dubey), Dimani (Surendra Singh) Tomar, ..
Congress leader Navjot Singh Sidhu Wednesday said the decision of the party high command is supreme, his remark coming in response to state Congress leaders opposing any alliance with the AAP in Punjab. The statement of the cricketer-turned-politician came amid strong reservations by the Punjab Congress leaders over any alliance with the ruling party in the state. "The decision of the party high command is supreme. It is for a greater cause, National interest has been kept paramount to honour the spirit of the constitution and to free the enchained institutions which draw their strength from constitutional values," Sidhu posted on X. "Petty perish pump politics loaded with selfish vested interests should be discarded for safeguarding our DEMOCRACY. Elections are not fought for the next election, they are fought for the next generation. Long live INDIA. Jurrega BHARAT," he posted. Congress leaders in Punjab had on Tuesday asserted they were against any kind of alliance with the AAP

Delhi minister and senior AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj on Saturday alleged that a "sin" has been committed by installing 'shivlings' as fountains in a public space, and Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena should apologise to the nation for the act. The LG, however, countered the charge, saying, "I see it as a piece of art. I cannot comment on the opinion of others." Bharadwaj levelled the allegation during an interaction with media after inspection of work being done to beautify roads for the G20 Summit next week. Asked about the shivling fountains row, he said, "A sin has been committed by installing shivlings as fountains in a public place. "In public fountains, treated wastewater is circulated. We offer holy water to a shivling, the symbol of Lord Shiva. It belongs in temples and homes and not in public places... LG should apologise to the nation over this," Bharadwaj said. On Saturday, in an interaction with PTI, Lt Governor Saxena, said, "What they are calling a shivling is an ...
Amid the agitation by 'patwaris' to press for their demands, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Saturday announced to hire 586 new 'patwaris' (revenue officials) on vacant posts, asserting that people will not be allowed to be harassed. In a video message, CM Mann also said 741 undertraining patwaris will be assigned their jobs in circles where posts are vacant. He further said there are 710 such posts where appointment letters are yet to be issued because of pending police verification. He said the home department has been directed to complete the process of police verification so that appointment letters to 710 candidates, who have already passed their exams, be given. With these steps, a total of 2,037 circles where posts of 'patwaris' are lying vacant will be filled, the chief minister said. The 'patwaris' began the agitation on Friday, saying they were boycotting "additional" work they are expected to carry out. A union leader said the officials have stopped work allotted t
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday said his party demanded that seat-sharing across the country be discussed at the meeting of the Opposition's INDIA alliance here. When asked what transpired at the informal meeting of the alliance leaders in the evening, the Delhi chief minister said his party sought seat-sharing discussions for all the states. "The meeting was good," he said.
Members of the opposition BJP boycotted the meeting of the AAP-led municipal House on Thursday while a Congress woman councillor objected to the session being called on the last day of the month and on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan. Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi during the House said "we celebrate our festivals, but we also know our duties". She took a jibe at the BJP and said "people cannot run away from their responsibilities in the name of a festival". She also asserted that the opposition should not try to give it a political colour. An AAP member said the BJP councillors not attending the meeting of the House "was a matter of shame" as he accused them of shying away from their duties in the name of Raksha Bandhan. The Delhi BJP on August 29 had announced that if the House was held on the day of Raksha Bandhan, its members will not attend it and alleged that it amounted to "harassment" of municipal employees. The festival this year has fallen on both August 30 and 31. "If the A
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) slammed the BJP-led Centre on Thursday following fresh allegations against the Adani Group and requested the Supreme Court to take cognisance of the charges, demanding "strictest action" against the business conglomerate. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party also said a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) should be set up to probe the charges against the Adani Group and alleged that capital market regulator SEBI or any other government agency will not be able to bring out the truth in the matter as industrialist Gautam Adani is the "closest friend" of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The AAP's demand came after the Organised Crime and Corruption Reporting Project (OCCRP) trained its guns on the Adani Group on Thursday, alleging that hundreds of millions of dollars were invested in the publicly-traded group stocks through Mauritius-based "opaque" investment funds managed by the partners of the promoter family. In a statement, the Adani Group categorically rejected wha
Delhi PWD Minister Atishi on Wednesday said the Rajghat memorial complex, which will likely see visits during the upcoming G20 Summit, has undergone unique landscaping and a 115-ft Indian flag has been installed at the site. Assessing the preparations for the G20 summit being held next week, Atishi inspected the Shantivan Road stretch and the Delhi Gate stretch. Atishi said that it was a matter of pride for both Delhi and the country that the G20 Summit is being held in the national capital. Preparations for the G20 summit are in full swing across Delhi, with beautification efforts also well underway. Two Aam Aadmi Party leaders on Wednesday pitched for Arvind Kejriwal as the prime ministerial candidate for the opposition INDIA bloc, saying that as Delhi chief minister he has given a model that the whole country can benefit from. Hours later, Delhi Cabinet Minister Atishi clarified that Kejriwal does not have aspirations for the prime minister's post. The comments came a day ahead of the INDIA alliance's meeting in Mumbai during which the opposition leaders are expected to chalk out a joint campaign strategy to take on the BJP-led NDA in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections and iron out the differences among themselves. To a question on who should be the prime ministerial candidate for the INDIA alliance, the AAP's chief national spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar told PTI, "As a spokesperson, I would propose our national convener Arvind Kejriwal's name." She said Kejriwal has constantly raised the issues of the people and "has given a model" which has led to the least inflation in Delhi. "He
