Bharti Airtel on Monday said it has completed the landing of the new SEA-ME-WE 6 submarine cable system in Chennai. The company recently landed the SEA-ME-WE 6 (Southeast Asia-Middle East-West Europe-6 or SMW6) cable in Mumbai on December 30, 2024. "The cable landing, both in Mumbai and Chennai, will be fully integrated with Airtel's data centre arm, Nxtra by Airtel, at its large facilities in the respective cities with an aim to enable global hyperscalers and businesses in the country to seamlessly access international connectivity and data centre services," Bharti Airtel said in a release. These cable landings were completed by SubCom, a leading supplier of subsea fibre optic cable data systems responsible for the engineering, manufacture and installation of SEA-ME-WE-6. Bharti Airtel's data centre company Nxtra plans to invest Rs 5,000 crore to double its capacity to around 400 megawatt over the next three years, the firm said on Wednesday. The company had earlier set a target of reaching around 400 megawatt capacity by 2025. Nxtra said it has become the first data centre in India to leverage AI to build digitised facilities engineered to drive smart capabilities like predictive maintenance, enhanced operational and energy efficiency, streamlined automation of operations and optimised capex utilisation. Nxtra CEO Ashish Arora said the company will make a "Rs 5,000 crore investment over the next three years to double the Nxtra capacity to around 400 megawatt". Airtel Payments Bank has posted a 45 per cent increase in net profit to Rs 11.2 crore for the second quarter ended September 2024, the company said on Wednesday. The company had registered a net profit of around Rs 7.72 crore a year ago. The bank said its quarterly revenue grew 58 per cent to Rs 674 crore during the reported quarter on a year-on-year basis.
