Kejriwal questions deployment of Gujarat SRPF companies for Delhi polls

Aam Aadmi Party's national convener Arvind Kejriwal has questioned the deployment of eight companies of the State Reserve Police Force (SRPF) from Gujarat for the upcoming Delhi assembly elections. The SRPF companies reached Delhi on January 13 as per the order of the Election Commission (EC), Commandant SRPF, Bhachau, Tejas Patel said on Saturday. Kejriwal in a post on X on Saturday shared a circular issued by the office of the Additional Director General of Police (DGP), Armed Unit, regarding deployment of SRPF for Delhi election. "Read this order of Gujarat Police. Election Commission has removed Punjab Police from Delhi and deployed Gujarat Police. What is going on?" the former Delhi chief minister asked. Kejriwal's post came a day after the Punjab Police personnel deployed for his personal security were withdrawn, which he claimed was "pure politics". Delhi excise case: Court exempts Kejriwal, Sisodia from appearing in person

A Delhi court on Friday exempted former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders Manish Sisodia and Durgesh Pathak from personally appearing in a excise case as they were campaigning for upcoming assembly elections. Special judge Kaveri Baweja allowed the reprieve after the three AAP leaders said they were unable to personally appear in court as they were "actively engaged" in campaigning for the elections. "In view of the above said submissions, personal appearance of the applicants are exempted for today only through counsel... The case is adjourned to February 3, 2025," the judge said. The money laundering case stems from a CBI case lodged after Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena recommended a probe into the alleged irregularities in the implementation of the excise policy. According to the CBI and the ED, irregularities were committed while modifying the excise policy and undue favours were extended to the licence holders. The Delhi government implemented the policy on

UP CM Yogi should 'guide' Amit Shah to fix Delhi law and order: Kejriwal

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath should "guide" Union Home Minister Amit Shah about how to improve law and order and eliminate gangsters in Delhi, AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal said on Friday. Adityanath, in back-to-back to election rallies in Delhi on Thursday, slammed Kejriwal over a host of issues, alleging the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) settled Bangladeshi and Rohingya infiltrators in Okhla and other parts of the city. Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal claimed that Adityanath said in Delhi that he improved law and order and eliminated gangsters in Uttar Pradesh. "Yogi said a very good thing yesterday. He said law and order has collapsed in Delhi. I hundred per cent agree with him. There are 11 big groups of gangsters in Delhi, who are openly operating, dividing the city into 11 sections," Kejriwal said. He further charged that the gangs are openly demanding ransoms of crores of rupees from traders and women find it difficult to go out of their houses, adding that ...

Pure politics behind removal of security cover, says Arvind Kejriwal

A day after Punjab Police personnel deployed in the security of AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal were withdrawn, the former Delhi chief minister on Friday dubbed it as "pure politics". "I regret that personal security has been politicised," he said addressing a press conference here. His remarks also came after the AAP chief alleged that the police allowed a rival candidate's men to attack his car on Thursday on the orders of Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Delhi Police dismissed the claim. At the press conference on Friday, Kejriwal also took a dig at the BJP and Shah over the law and order situation in Delhi due to the activities of gangsters. Kejriwal said that Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath who claims to have eliminated gangsters in his state, should give tips to Shah on how to rein in Delhi's gangsters. The AAP chief said "pure politics" was behind the move to "withdraw his security cover". There should not be any politics at least over personal safety and security,

With voting in Delhi assembly elections less than two weeks away, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday vowed to eliminate unemployment in the national capital within the next five years. In a video message, the former Delhi chief minister emphasised his focus on employment. "My top priority will be to provide employment to our youths. Our team is drafting a detailed plan to address the issue of unemployment," he said. Highlighting his government's track record, Kejriwal claimed the AAP government in Punjab provided 48,000 government jobs in less than two years and facilitated over three lakh private-sector jobs for youths. BJP misusing police to derail AAP campaign, intimidate voters: Kejriwal

AAP national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal alleged Wednesday the BJP is using the city police to disrupt his party's poll campaign and intimidate voters ahead of the February 5 assembly elections. "All the Delhi Police is with the BJP. No one is there for the security and safety of the people. One of the SHOs told me they get direct instructions from the Ministry of Home Affairs to disrupt our rallies," Kejriwal told a press conference, also addressed by Chief Minister Atishi and senior party leader Saurabh Bharadwaj. The people of Delhi will have to stand together and give the BJP a strong reply, Kejriwal said. "I am afraid voters might be stopped from casting their votes this time." Kejriwal claimed the BJP faces a "historic defeat" in Delhi and that is why its workers are resorting to hooliganism with the support of police. "Police are facilitating the BJP's campaign and supporting their workers who are disrupting AAP's poll efforts," he said. Atishi

Defamation case: SC asks BJP leader to reply on Atishi, Kejriwal plea

The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted six weeks to a Delhi BJP leader to respond to a plea of Delhi Chief Minister Atishi and AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal against an order that refused to quash a defamation case against them over their alleged remarks on deletion of the voters' names. A bench of Justices Hrishikesh Roy and S V N Bhatti adjourned the hearing after the counsel for complainant Rajiv Babbar sought more time to file his response. On September 30, last year, the apex court while issuing notice to Babbar stayed the proceedings before the trial court. Babbar said he did not file the complaint in an individual capacity but as the authorised representative of the BJP, a political party, while bringing on record a January 16, 2019 authorisation letter in support of his claim. Previously, senior advocate Sonia Mathur, representing Babbar, submitted the alleged statements were defamatory in nature as they lowered the party's credibility amongst voters. On the other hand, senior

BJP's manifesto 'dangerous', will stop free education in schools: Kejriwal

Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday described the BJP's election manifesto as "dangerous for the country". He alleged that the party plans to shut free education in government schools and dismantle free health services, including the Mohalla Clinics, if voted to power. In a press conference, Kejriwal accused the BJP of revealing its "true intentions" in the manifesto and warned voters against supporting the party. "If the BJP comes to power, they will stop free education, end free health facilities and make it difficult for the poor to survive in Delhi. This is a direct attack on the welfare of the common man," he said. Kejriwal further appealed to people not to vote for the BJP, claiming that their policies would jeopardise the future of the country and adversely impact the lives of Delhi's poor. "The BJP's Sankalp Patra is a blueprint for closing government schools and Mohalla Clinics, which have been a lifeline for many," he added. The BJP is yet to respond
