Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday asserted that the 2024 Lok Sabha elections will be a walkover for the BJP if Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal is pitted against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He claimed that the Delhi chief minister is not even known in many states, which will lead to a further increase in the BJP's tally in the Lok Sabha. "Badhiya hai (It will be fine)," Sarma quipped, when asked by reporters whether it will be Modi versus Kejriwal in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. "In any game, say cricket, an opposition is needed. "It will amount to a walkover," Sarma asserted. On allegation by the AAP that the Centre is trying to destroy the healthcare

Delhi Excise Minister has become excuse minister, says Anurag Thakur

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Friday dubbed Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia as an excuse minister after the latter claimed he was paying the price for honesty as the CBI searched his premises in connection with the excise scam. Sisodia, who also holds the excise portfolio in the Delhi government, said the agency probe against him was to derail his work to improve education facilities in the national capital. Responding to it, Thakur said in a statement, The excise minister has become excuse minister". Today, the issue is of liquor licenses and corruption involved in it. The minister concerned is Manish Sisodia. He reversed the excise policy the day the probe was handed over to the CBI. Why was this step taken, because there was corruption in the issuance of liquor licenses, Thakur said. The minister said the fear of a CBI probe had compelled Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Sisodia to link the searches by the central investigative agency

Sounds from Rohingya colony: From hope to fear in a matter of hours

Mariam, a Rohingya Muslim who lives in a squalid Delhi locality, was happy she and her daughter would get to live in a pucca house for the first time in a decade. A tweet by Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri had raised her hopes, but a quick clarification by the Home Ministry meant the hope of getting a roof over her head in a faraway land was short-lived. "We don't know why the Government of India changed their decision. The only thing I was happy about was that, my daughter and I would be living in a pucca building for the first time after a decade," the 35-year-old, living in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj, told PTI. A section of the refugees living in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj has been apprehensive about their deportation in an "unfair" manner, after the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the Delhi government to declare the camps of the Rohingyas in Delhi as detention centres. The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) made it clear Wednesday it had not given any directions to provide flats to Rohing

Delhi Chief Minister and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday launched a national mission to make India the number one country in the world and called on all citizens and political parties to join it. Kejriwal said he will travel across the country as part of the mission -- 'Make India No. 1' -- to encourage people to join the initiative and achieve its objectives. He said the mission is apolitical in nature. "This is not the mission of a political party, it's a national mission. I call upon the BJP and all other parties to come forward and join this initiative to make India the number one country in the world," the chief minister said. Many countries like Singapore got independence after India but are ahead of us. Why is India lagging behind despite Indians being the "most intelligent a
