Auto component maker Anand Group on Tuesday said its unit Gabriel India has inked a technical collaboration with Netherlands-based Inalfa Roof Systems to manufacture sunroofs for the passenger vehicles. The newly formed Inalfa Gabriel Sunroof Systems (IGSS), which will initially be a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gabriel India, will produce sunroofs at a new plant in Chennai with operations set to commence in the first quarter of 2024 with an investment of around Rs 170 crore. The entities noted that the IGSS will be later converted into a joint venture with Inalfa holding 51 per cent shareholding. IGSS will have an installed production capacity of 2 lakh units in the first phase with first line catering to South Korean automakers Hyundai and Kia. Automaker Kia India on Wednesday said it crossed 2 lakh export milestone in FY23 and continues to see robust demand from various regions like the Middle East and Mexico. South Korean automaker Kia is focussing on the utility vehicle segment in the Indian market as it remains bullish on the long-term growth potential of the vertical in the country, according to a senior company official. The automaker, which sells products like Seltos, Sonet and Carens in the market, also plans to keep on offering diesel trims on its models with demand remaining robust for such variants in the fast-growing sports utility vehicle (SUV) segment. Buoyed by its presence in the utility vehicle segment, the company expects its sales to grow by around 10 per cent this year. It sold 2,54,556 units in 2022. "Our focus firmly remains on multi-purpose vehicles and sports utility vehicles," Kia India National Head- Sales and Marketing Hardeep Singh Brar told PTI in an interaction. German automaker Audi on Tuesday said it will increase the price of Q3 and Q3 Sportback by up to 1.6 per cent with effect from May 1, in order to offset the impact of increase in customs duty and input costs. The company has already increased the price of Q8 Celebration, RS5 and S5 by up to 2.4 per cent with effect from April 1. "At Audi India, we strive to give our customers the best, but the rise in customs duty and input costs have compelled us to amend our prices upwards," Audi India Head Balbir Singh Dhillon said in a statement. While the company has tried to absorb the impact at various levels, the current situation necessitates an increase in price, he added. Mercedes-Benz India has already increased prices of its vehicles ranging between Rs 2 lakh to Rs 12 lakh across different models from April 1, to offset rising input costs, especially the adverse impact of foreign exchange movements.
