Five associates of controversial cleric Maulana Tauqeer Raza have been issued recovery notices of over Rs 1.25 crore for alleged power theft at e-charging stations, officials said on Monday. Last week, a joint team conducted raids in the Baan Khana area and uncovered five e-charging centres operating on stolen electricity. An FIR was lodged, and recovery notices of over Rs 1.25 crore was issued against the five accused. Officials said this was not the first such incident in the area and a similar raid about a year ago had also exposed four illegal charging units of the same persons. At least three persons were killed and as many injured following a blast at a firecracker manufacturing unit in a village here on Wednesday, police said. The explosion, which took place in the Sirauli police station area, also caused damage to some adjoining buildings, they added. The police said they are verifying the licence of the cracker unit's operator Nasir. A senior police officer said Nasir allegedly had the licence for another place but the house where the incident took place belonged to his in-laws. "Three people have died and at least as many injured in an explosion at a firecracker making unit in Sirauli area of Bareilly district," Inspector General (Bareilly Range) Rakesh Singh told PTI. Three women died while 26 were injured when a bus driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into a gorge near Gangnani on the Gangotri National Highway in Uttarakhand, police said on Wednesday. According to them, the incident occurred 50 km from Gangnani on Tuesday night. The bus went out of the driver's control, broke the crash barrier, tumbled down the gorge and got stuck on a tree before it could hit the bottom, police officials said. A lot of lives were saved since it got stuck in the tree and did not fall into the Bhagirathi river, an official said.
